TIFF is common in scanning, print, and archival workflows, but many websites, messaging apps, and everyday photo viewers reject it. JPG is widely accepted and is usually much smaller.

What the Browser Tool Keeps and Changes
JPG Compression Is Lossy
JPG usually reduces file size by discarding some visual information. Fine text, line art, and repeated saves can reveal artifacts, so keep the TIFF when it is the archival or print master.
Transparency Is Flattened on White
JPG cannot store transparency. Transparent and semi-transparent pixels are composited onto white before export. Choose TIFF to PNG when decoded transparency matters.
TIFF Metadata and Extra Pages Are Not Copied
The JPG is created from decoded first-page pixels. Extra pages, TIFF tags, embedded profiles, layers, and document metadata are not preserved.
Unsafe TIFF Layouts Are Rejected
The browser workflow accepts supported interleaved TIFFs up to 8 megapixels and 8192 pixels per edge. Planar, unusual extra-channel, and memory-heavy files are rejected instead of risking a corrupted download or browser crash.
