Why Convert AVIF to PNG

Lossless Output, Transparency Intact

PNG is a lossless format, so converting from AVIF does not add a second round of compression artifacts on top of the ones already baked into the source. PNG also supports an alpha channel, which means transparent areas in the AVIF survive the conversion instead of being flattened onto a background colour.

Best for Logos, Icons, and Screenshots

If the image contains flat colour, text, sharp edges, or transparency — a logo, an icon, a UI screenshot, a diagram — PNG is the better target than JPG. JPG compression blurs hard edges and adds visible ringing around text, while PNG reproduces them exactly.

Expect a Substantially Larger File

PNG stores pixels losslessly, so a photographic AVIF converted to PNG can grow several times over. That is the cost of lossless output. For photographs where file size matters more than exactness, JPG or WebP will be far smaller.

Yes. PNG supports an alpha channel, so transparent and semi-transparent areas in the AVIF are carried through to the PNG unchanged. This is the main reason to choose PNG over JPG as your output format.
