Fit mode keeps the whole photo and pads the remaining space with white; Fill mode covers the full canvas and crops the overflow. JPG Is a Lossy Format
JPG compresses images by discarding detail the eye is least likely to notice. That is why it is small and universally supported — and why every re-save discards a little more. This tool re-encodes the resized image once at 90% quality, a setting chosen to keep the loss visually negligible for photos, but repeatedly resizing and re-saving the same JPG will gradually degrade it. Keep your original and resize from it each time.
Smaller Dimensions, Smaller File
Reducing pixel dimensions is the most reliable way to shrink a JPG: a 1080px-wide copy of a 4000px photo stores far fewer pixels, so it loads faster in email, forms, and web pages. Enlarging works too, but upscaling cannot invent detail the source does not have — an enlarged JPG is bigger, not sharper.
