Three Controls That Really Affect GIF Size
Reduce dimensions
Scaling every frame to 75%, 50%, or less removes pixels throughout the animation. It is often the largest size reduction, but text and small details can become harder to read.
Use fewer colors or frames
GIF palettes contain at most 256 colors. A smaller palette can reduce data but may add banding. Keeping every second or third frame reduces frame count while combining delays to preserve the overall duration.
Measure Instead of Guessing
A smaller output is not guaranteed
An already optimized GIF can grow when it is decoded and encoded again. This tool never claims a percentage before doing the work: it shows both byte counts after compression so you can keep the better file.
Preview quality and motion
Lower palettes can create color banding and frame sampling can make motion less smooth. Watch the output preview before replacing the original.

How can I make a GIF file smaller?
Reduce its pixel dimensions, palette colors, or frame count. Combining those changes is more aggressive but can reduce clarity, color accuracy, or motion smoothness.
Can this compressor hit an exact file size?
No. GIF encoding is content-dependent, so the controls do not promise an exact target. The tool measures the output so you can adjust and process it again.
Why did my compressed GIF get larger?
The source may already use frame-difference and palette optimizations that are lost during a full-frame re-encode. Try smaller dimensions, fewer colors, or fewer frames, and keep the original when it is already smaller.
