Check Image DPI Online
Drop in a JPG or PNG to read its stored DPI source, exact pixel dimensions, megapixels, and calculated physical print size without uploading the file.

Check the file first, change any supported density, or use the focused 300 DPI workflow.

Read the metadata that is actually present
JPG JFIF and EXIF resolution
JPG files can store image density in JFIF or EXIF metadata. The checker reads both and identifies which source supplied the displayed value.
PNG physical-pixel density
PNG files use a pHYs chunk to store pixels per physical unit. The checker converts a meter-based value to pixels per inch and reports when that chunk is absent.

Separate pixels from print instructions
Missing DPI is normal on the web
Screenshots, social downloads, and web exports often omit physical-resolution metadata. That does not mean the image has no resolution; its exact width and height in pixels still determine screen detail and possible print size.
Calculate print size honestly
When stored DPI exists, the checker divides pixel dimensions by that value to show the calculated print size in inches and centimeters. Printer scaling and application settings can still override the tag.
How do I check the DPI of an image?
- 1
Step 1: Choose a JPG or PNG
Select one image up to 25 MB. The browser reads the file directly on your device.
- 2
Step 2: Read the DPI and source
See the horizontal and vertical density plus the JFIF, EXIF, or PNG metadata source. Files without a physical-resolution tag are clearly marked.
- 3
Step 3: Review pixels and print size
Use the exact dimensions and calculated physical size to decide whether the image meets the destination requirement.

How can I tell if an image is 300 DPI?
Upload the JPG or PNG and read the stored DPI result. Also check the pixel dimensions against the intended physical print size because a 300 DPI tag alone does not guarantee enough detail.
Why does my image say DPI is not set?
Many web and screenshot files omit physical-resolution metadata. The image still has exact pixel dimensions; it simply does not carry a preferred print density.
Is DPI the same as pixel dimensions?
No. Pixel dimensions describe how many pixels the image contains. The stored DPI or PPI value tells print software how densely to place those pixels when calculating physical size.
Does checking DPI upload my image?
No. The JPG or PNG header is parsed locally in your browser and the file is not sent to a server.
Can I change the DPI after checking it?
Yes. Open the DPI Converter to set a common or custom value while preserving the same pixel dimensions and compressed image data.
