What size should a profile picture be?

It depends on the platform. The presets here are 400 px for Instagram, LinkedIn, and X, 200 px for TikTok, 500 px for WhatsApp, and 128 px for Discord. Platforms resize and re-crop on their side, so a sharp square that keeps your face centered works almost everywhere.

Can I use a rectangular photo?

Yes. The tool crops a square from it. Drag the frame to choose which part of a wide or tall photo to keep.

Can I change the background of my profile picture?

Yes. Press Remove background, then choose a solid color behind the cutout. Results depend on the photo, so check edges around hair before downloading.

Why is there a transparent area around my circle?

A circle cannot fill a square image, so the corners are transparent. Platforms that show avatars in a circle will not display them.

Is my photo uploaded?

Cropping, framing, resizing, and the circle mask all run in your browser tab. The one exception is the optional Remove background button: it sends the photo to our server to cut out the subject. Skip it and nothing leaves your device.

What file do I download?

A PNG. A circle crop leaves transparent corners, and only PNG keeps them. Platforms that crop avatars to a circle themselves accept a square PNG just as well.

How to make a profile picture online?
