Meta documents photo widths up to 1080 pixels with supported ratios from 1.91:1 through 3:4, and says one chosen orientation applies across every item in a carousel. Check the image-resolution guidance and carousel instructions before publishing because platform behavior can change.
Create a Seamless Swipe Across Carousel Slides
One centered crop is divided on shared pixel boundaries, so adjacent slides continue the same image without duplicated or missing strips.
One Consistent Orientation
Choose 3:4, 4:5, square, or landscape output. Instagram applies one selected orientation to every photo and video in a carousel.
Left-to-Right Numbering
Every file is labeled slide 01, slide 02, and onward. Add them to the carousel in that order to preserve the continuous swipe.
How to split an image for a seamless Instagram carousel?

Step 1: Upload a wide image
Choose the panorama or continuous design you want people to reveal as they swipe.

Step 2: Choose slides and orientation
Select between 2 and 20 slides, then use one 3:4, 4:5, square, or landscape shape for the complete set.

Step 3: Review the crop and seams
Use the preview to check where each cut falls and whether important text or faces cross a slide boundary.

Step 4: Download and add in order
Download the ZIP, then select slide 01 through the final numbered slide in order when building the carousel.
