How to pick a color from an image?

Step 1: Choose an Image

Click or tap the point you want to inspect. The preview is scaled for the screen while preserving the source colors used for sampling.

Is the image uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is decoded and sampled in your browser. It is not sent to Instasize or another server.
Which image formats can I use?
The picker accepts one JPG, PNG, or WebP image up to 20 MB. Browser support for formats such as HEIC varies, so convert those files first.
Does the picker return the exact pixel color?
It reads the RGB channels of the pixel under the pointer in the browser-decoded preview. Embedded color profiles and display calibration can affect how a color looks on different screens even when the numeric value is unchanged.
Can I pick a transparent pixel?
Yes. The result labels fully transparent pixels. HEX, RGB, and HSL values describe the stored color channels, while transparency is a separate alpha value.
What is the difference between HEX, RGB, and HSL?
HEX and RGB encode the same red, green, and blue channels in different notation. HSL describes hue, saturation, and lightness, which can be easier to adjust by eye.
