Does converting an image to Base64 reduce its size?

No. Base64 text is usually about one-third larger than the original binary file before compression. It can simplify embedding a small image, but it is not an image-compression method.

Does Base64 encoding change image quality?

No. Encoding preserves the original file bytes and does not resize or recompress the image. Decoding the output produces the same bytes that were encoded.

Which image formats can I encode?

The browser tool accepts PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, SVG, and AVIF images up to 10 MB. It preserves the source MIME type in the generated data URL.

Is my image uploaded to a server?

No. The file is read and encoded locally in your browser. Do not paste the result into a public service unless you intend the image data to be public there.

When should I use an image data URL?

Data URLs can be useful for small self-contained assets, prototypes, API payloads, or fields that explicitly request Base64. Large embedded strings can increase HTML, CSS, or JSON size, so normal image files are often better for larger assets.
