What is a PLP?

Definition

PLP stands for product listing page. It is a page that shows many products at once as small cards, such as a category page or search results. Each card shows a thumbnail, title and price and links to that product's detail page.

Why it matters for sellers

On a PLP the shopper compares many products in a few seconds. The thumbnail is usually the only image they see, so it must show the product clearly even when small. Cluttered backgrounds and tiny products get skipped.

A PLP also exposes inconsistency. If one thumbnail is square, another is tall and a third has a gray background, the grid looks uneven. Using the same size, framing and background for every card makes the whole catalog look intentional.

How to do it with Instasize

Instasize helps you give every product card the same look by applying one background, size and format to the whole set.

  1. Pick one background style for the catalog, such as pure white.
  2. Open the Batch Photo Editor and upload the product photos.
  3. Select background removal and a size preset that matches your store.
  4. Download the zip and upload the thumbnails to your store.
  5. Open your category page and check that the grid lines up.

Examples

  • A jewelry category

Forty rings sit in one grid. Each is cut out on white and cropped square, so the shopper compares them by shape and color, not by background.

  • A search results page

A shopper searches for water bottles and sees twelve cards. The bottles that fill the frame on a plain background are easy to read, while small, off-center ones blend into the page.

Frequently asked questions

What does PLP stand for?

PLP stands for product listing page. It is also called a category page or collection page.

Do PLP images need to be square?

Many stores crop cards to one ratio, often square, but it depends on the theme or marketplace. Check your platform and use the same ratio for every product.

Which image shows on a PLP?

Usually the first image of the product. Put the clearest, most representative view first.

Why do thumbnails look cropped on my store?

The theme may crop images to fit a fixed card shape. Resize your photos to that shape in advance so the crop does not cut off the product.
