Live Photos are great in the moment, but a plain video is what actually plays back everywhere else — Android phones, most messaging apps, and anywhere Live Photos aren't supported. Here's the current way to convert one (or several) on iPhone.
Save a Single Live Photo as a Video
- Open the Photos app and go to your Live Photo (swipe to Media Types → Live Photos to filter to just these).
- Tap the Live Photo to open it.
- Tap the More button (•••) in the top-right corner.
- Choose Save as Video.
Your new video lands in the Recently Saved album, and the original Live Photo stays untouched in the Live Photos album — this creates a copy rather than converting in place.
If you need to choose a different key frame, crop the image, or adjust its color first, follow the steps for editing a Live Photo on iPhone before saving the video copy.
Combine Several Live Photos Into One Video
If you have a batch of Live Photos from the same event and want one video instead of converting them one at a time:
- In Photos, tap Collections, then scroll to Media Types → Live Photos.
- Tap Select in the top-right, then tap each Live Photo you want to include — a checkmark appears on each.
- Tap the ••• button, then choose Save as Video.
iOS stitches the selected Live Photos into a single combined video, saved to your Videos.
Using Instasize for More Control
Once you've got a video file, Instasize lets you go further than a straight save:
- Trim and edit: cut to the exact clip you want before sharing.
- Resize for the platform: get the video to the right dimensions for Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube without cropping out what matters.
- Add filters and effects: apply the same editing tools you'd use on a photo.
Available free on iOS, Android, and web.
FAQs
Can I convert Live Photos to videos on Android?
No — Live Photos are an iOS-only format, so this specific conversion only applies to iPhone and iPad.
Do I lose quality when I save a Live Photo as a video?
No, the video keeps the same resolution as the Live Photo's captured frames.
Can I turn a saved video back into a Live Photo?
No — once you save it as a video, that's a one-way conversion. The original Live Photo remains separately in your library if you need it again.
Why don't I see a "Save as Video" option?
Make sure you're tapping the Live Photo itself (not a still photo) and using the ••• More button rather than the Share icon — Save as Video lives under More, not under Share.
