How to Unlink Facebook and Instagram

Alright, you're done with having your Instagram and Facebook linked. I get it. Sometimes, you just want to keep things separate. Let's walk through how to unlink these two social media giants.

First off, why would you want to do this?

  • Privacy concerns, including a preference to make Instagram private without changing Facebook
  • Different content strategy for each platform
  • Avoiding automatic cross-posts
  • Reducing notifications and simplifying your feed

Unlinking stops future automatic sharing, but it does not change the audience for content already posted. To restrict existing images, update the Facebook photo and album privacy settings separately.

Whatever your reason, it's a simple process. I'll show you how.

  1. Open the Instagram App

Grab your phone and fire up the Instagram app.

  2. Go to Your Profile

Tap on your profile picture at the bottom right corner.

  3. Tap on the Three Lines (Menu)

You’ll see this at the top right corner. Tap on it.

  4. Go to Settings

Scroll down and tap on ‘Settings’.

  5. Account Center

    Navigate to 'Account Center'.

  6. Accounts & Profiles

Here, you'll see all the accounts that are linked. Tap on 'Accounts & Profiles'.

  7. Select Facebook

Tap on the Facebook account you want to unlink.

  8. Remove Account

Confirm you want to remove the account by tapping
