What is a transparent PNG?
Definition
A transparent PNG is a PNG image file in which some or all pixels are see-through, so whatever sits behind the image shows through. PNG stores this with an alpha channel, which records how opaque each pixel is. JPG cannot do this.
Why it matters for sellers
A transparent PNG lets you place a product on any color, photo or template without a box around it. Sellers use this for banners, ads, bundle images and store graphics, where one cutout is reused many times.
It also avoids a common mistake. If you save a cutout as JPG, the transparent areas turn into a solid color, usually white or black, and the cutout loses its flexibility. Keep a transparent PNG as your master, and export JPG copies when you need them.
How to do it with Instasize
Instasize removes the background and saves the subject as a PNG with no box behind it. You can inspect fine edges before downloading.
- Upload a product, portrait, logo or object photo.
- Let the tool remove the background.
- Check hair, fur, glass and other fine edges in the preview.
- Download the transparent PNG.

Frequently asked questions
Why does my transparent PNG show a white box?
The image may have been saved with a solid background, or the program you use may flatten transparency. Open it in an editor that shows a checkerboard to confirm.
Does a transparent PNG have a larger file size?
Often yes for photos, because PNG is lossless. If size matters, resize the image or compress it, or use WebP if the platform accepts it.
Can I make a JPG transparent?
No. JPG has no transparency. You need to remove the background and save the result as PNG or another format that supports alpha.
